An idealistic filmmaker tries to make a film about the true legacy of Christopher Columbus's "discovery" of the New World: an obsession with gold, the shameful slave trade and the violence perpetrated against the indigenous peoples who resisted the conquerors. Filming in Bolivia, the director finds himself in the middle of another struggle by the natives against foreign exploitation and realizes that things haven't changed so much in 500 years.
