Ty and James, high school surfers and mediocre rock and rollers, are fatally bored one day when they spot a refrigerator box in a dumpster. Naturally, they decide to put wheels on it, thus creating a new sport called boxboarding. This lands them on the news gaining them instant fame at their school. Their archenemy Alexander sees the potential to market the boxboard's and sets up a competition where the winner will secure all the rights to what might be the next hula-hoop.
